Terms of Service
These terms set out the deal between you and Waymarker when you use our website and apps. We have tried to keep them plain and fair. Please read them.

1. Who we are
Waymarker (“we”, “us”) provides a platform that turns historic churches and heritage sites into self-guided audio and visual tours, and helps those places receive donations. When we say “the service” we mean our website, our tours, and anything connected to them.
2. Agreeing to these terms
By using the service you agree to these terms. If you are using Waymarker on behalf of a church or organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to act for it, and you accept these terms on its behalf. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
3. Visitors
Anyone can browse places, walk a tour, and follow a venue. Visiting is free. You do not need an account to explore. If you choose to sign in to view your subscriptions or giving history, we send a one-time link to your email rather than asking for a password. Keep access to your email safe, as anyone with it could open that link.
4. Church and venue accounts
If you list a venue, you are responsible for your account, for the people you invite to help, and for keeping your login details private. You agree that the information you give us is accurate, that you have the right to publish the content you upload, and that you will keep your venue's details up to date. You must hold any permissions needed for the building, its images, and its recordings.
5. Your content
The words, audio, photographs and other material you add stay yours. By adding them, you give us permission to host, display and share them as part of the service, so that visitors can see and hear your tour. You are responsible for what you upload. Please do not publish anything you do not have the right to use, anything misleading, or anything unlawful.
6. Acceptable use
Please use Waymarker in good faith. You agree not to misuse the service, including by:
- uploading content that is unlawful, hateful, or infringes someone else's rights,
- trying to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service,
- using it to send spam or to collect people's information without their consent,
- pretending to be a church or person you are not.
7. Donations and payments
Waymarker helps visitors give to the churches they visit. Today, donations go straight to each church, and Waymarker does not take a share. How payments reach a church depends on how the venue has set itself up.
- The church's own payment account. Where a venue connects its own payment provider, donations are taken directly by that provider into the church's account. The church is the recipient, and Waymarker is not the merchant or holder of those funds.
- External links. Some venues simply link to their own giving page. Those pages are run by the church or a third party, and their terms apply.
- Platform giving (planned, not live yet). In future we plan to collect donations on a church's behalf. A donation would then be a gift to Waymarker, with most of it supporting the church it was given for and a portion helping fund restoration at other historic churches. This is not in place today, and we will explain how it works before anything changes.
Donations are gifts and are generally not refundable. If you believe a payment was taken in error, contact the church in the first instance, or contact us and we will help. Gift Aid, receipts and the charitable status of any donation are the responsibility of the receiving church.
8. Emails and subscriptions
If you subscribe to a venue, we send a confirmation email and only add you once you confirm. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or from your account. We send service messages, such as sign-in links and donation receipts, as part of providing the service.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. We may add, change or remove features, and we may carry out maintenance, sometimes without notice.
10. Our brand and software
The Waymarker name, logo, design and software belong to us. Nothing in these terms gives you the right to use them except as needed to use the service normally.
11. Things we cannot promise
The service is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we do not give warranties of any kind. Tours are written by the churches themselves, and we do not guarantee that every detail is accurate or complete.
12. Our responsibility to you
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, for content provided by churches or third parties, or for payments handled by a church's own provider. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
13. Suspending or ending access
You can stop using Waymarker at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, or if we need to for legal or safety reasons. Where it is fair to do so, we will tell you first.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make an important change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, unless local law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
